A cloud of grief and sorrow engulfed Kituluni village, Matungulu sub-county of Machakos county on Saturday evening after two boys drowned in a well.
The duo aged 10 and 12 had been sent to fetch water before the tragedy struck.
The sad incident was confirmed by Kyeleni location chief Dominic Musau who said that the two slipped and fell.
"I was notified by residents about the heartbreaking incident where two boys drowned in a well while fetching water in Kituluni," said Musau.
He observed that one of the boys slipped and fell while the other tried to rescue he too fell and drowned.
He cautioned parents against sending their underage kids to water sources unaccompanied.
He said that it's dangerous for kids to go to fetch water while there's no adult with them.
"If there was an adult with the two boys may be the incident would have been avoided. Parents should desist from sending their kids to water sources without any adult accompany them," he said.
He noted that police arrived at the scene and took the bodies to Ol-Donyo Sabuk mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.
