Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s wife Hellen Obado has not been seen in public since the arrest and arraignment of the governor in court over Sharon Otieno’s murder.
On Monday when Obado pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, his wife was nowhere to be seen.
Obado’s wife absence in court to stand in solidarity with her husband is now raising speculations.
Obado’s wife, last appearance in public, was two weeks ago when the governor held a press briefing where he vehemently denied having a hand in the student’s murder.
During the presser at a top Nairobi hotel on September 13, Obado, however, admitted to having an affair with the slain student.
According to a detective involved in the murder probe, Obado’s wife is among people of interest who could be grilled in relation to the murder in the coming days.
Last week, detectives were said to have cancelled summons they had issued to Obado’s wife to record a statement.
“There are people we are still investigating, and that includes the governor’s wife,” a detective involved in the investigation and who sought anonymity said on Wednesday.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Obado’s public and the family image have been ruined.
“I understand why Obado’s wife has not been spotted anywhere near the court and that relates to the public interest and gravity of the charges facing the governor,” he said.
On Monday, Obado denied killing Sharon Otieno.
The Migori governor is in remand at Industrial area pending his bail ruling on Thursday.
