Embakasi East MP Babu Owino now wants the government to give jobs to people who are being rendered jobless in the ongoing demolitions in the city.

Owino says that hundreds of being are being rendered jobless as the government intensifies demolitions of buildings on riparian land.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings  on Thursday, the MP said that the demolitions will have serious economic repercussions.

The ODM MP said that while the exercise is welcomed, the government should have put in place alternative measures for innocent people who are losing their jobs.

The MP said that he has received many calls from concerned people who work at the Taj mall that is set to be demolished.

“The government should have put in place proper measures to cushion innocent people who are employed by owners of these buildings,” he said.

The MP pleaded with Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to find ways of helping innocent people losing their jobs.

Owino said that crime and other social evils is likely to increase as a result of the demolitions.

On Thursday the multi-agency leading demolitions in the city issued notice to tenants occupying the Air-Gate or Taj Mall on outering road.

The tenants have until August 30 to vacate the building that is set to be demolished since it is sitting on road reserve.

The owner of the building Ramesh Gorasia maintains that that the mall is not on public land. The businessman has vowed to seek compensation  once the mall  is brought down.
