Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has been named as Equity Bank Managing Director (MD).
In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, the Bank said that Igathe who has been serving as the Chief Commercial officer has strong values and passion and will fit well in his new role.
“Igathe has distinguished himself as a result oriented and committed business leader who is renowned fostering productivity,” the Bank said.
Igathe has been serving as the Equity Bank Commercial Officer for the last five months.
He resigned as Nairobi Deputy Governor in January, citing frustrations from Governor Mike Sonko.
Prior to joining politics and later quitting, Igathe served as Vivo Energy Managing Director.
Nine months since his (Igathe's) resignation, Governor Mike Sonko is yet to appoint his replacement.
A section of city MPs among them Kibera's Ken Okoth have been calling on Sonko to speed up in appointing a deputy governor for proper service delivery to Nairobians.
