Life is sacred! From both religious aspect and as per our constitution. Road accidents have claimed thousands of lives in Kenya, a sad affair that needs to stop. The government agencies must come up with the best recipe to the frequent road accidents that have claimed lives of Kenyans year in year out.
The government through the National transport and safety authority (NTSA) must initiate policies that will assure Kenyans of journey mercies. First, the authority should ensure that all drivers attend refresher training annually.
Through this, the government will be supervising closely the curriculum of various driving schools. Just like any other sector, the transport sector should be crowned with a new look because it plays a vital role in developing our economy.
Many people are employed directly or indirectly through this sector. The only question that remains answered is whether the service providers are qualified to perform their duties and responsibilities within the transport sector.
The victims and eyewitnesses have always associated with frequent road accidents with negligence of drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations. The most unfortunate thing is that drivers are equally not spared during these accidents. Drivers are professionals just like other service providers in various sectors and therefore there is a need to restructure and tighten the policies that govern the sector.
The refresher course will always remind drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, frequent car maintenance, drive on the right lane and not to drive when fatigued. Save lives!
