Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has slammed Deputy President (DP) William Ruto over his alleged role in the appointment of Raila Odinga as African Union envoy.
At Naivasha on Sunday, Ruto noted that the government negotiated for Odinga to be appointed as AU Representative for Infrastructure development.
The DP told off Odinga, arguing that part of his job description was not engaging in 'illicit gold business across the world'.
“In the job description, there was nothing like mineral extraction and we are surprised that Raila is being associated with the fake gold incident,” he said.
Mr Odinga was appointed AU envoy in charge of infrastructural development, an appointment which came in October last year, few months after his reconciliation with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On his Twitter account, Mohammed, a close ally of Odinga, dismissed the claims, arguing that Ruto had lost his senses.
"Arap Mashamba now claims he negotiated for PM the AU job. A few weeks ago, however, he claimed Tinga approached him four times and he refused.
"You need good memory to lie consistently. But now the man has even grabbed his own memory space. Hii siasa ya chuki na matusi ni ngumu," he said.
DP Ruto is embroiled in a war of words with the ODM leader in what is viewed as a possible showdown ahead of the 2022 polls where they could face off.
