A middle-aged man killed himself on Monday in Birongo, Nyaribari Chache in Kisii County after his mother rejected his decision to marry a second wife.
According to the village, the deceased Emmanuel Onsombi brought home his second wife on Saturday evening the marriage his mother Esther Kemuma opposed.
"Onsombi married Evelyn as his second wife but, his mother said she won't allow him to be polygamous. He was angered by his mother, went to a local shop and bought poison which he consumed," said a local Wilson Otengo.
Mr. Otengo said the second wife also happens to be the deceased close relative.
"Kemuma is a relative to Onsombi's mother and this is the main reason the deceased mother was opposing the marriage but, he seemed to have loved her so much until he hanged self," he added.
Area chief Antony Nyang'au said suicide cases are at the peak in the region.
"Men are taking own lives daily. Urgent measures need to be put to curb unnecessary deaths resulting from suicides," he said.
He noted that the deceased body was moved to RAM hospital morgue.
