Kisumu County Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong’o has finally launched his book titled ‘Presidential or Parliamentary Democracy in Kenya’.
The book launch was held on Tuesday at the University of Nairobi, Manu Chandaria Hall. The book is aimed at addressing the system of government, handing room for Kenyans to choose between the presidential and the parliamentary system.
The launch attracted top government officials including African Union Envoy Raila Odinga who was the chief guest, Siaya Senator James Orengo, Joe Ager, Raphael Tuju, Dr Mukhisa Kitui, Gitobu Imanyara, and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
According to Nyong’o, the presidential system has never been the best choice in a multicultural society like Kenya. He argued that parliamentary systems have worked better in countries with multicultural societies in terms of political stability and national unity.
"I have always argued that an election is democratic when the winners celebrate their victory while the losers accept the results as legitimate," said Nyong'o.
During an interview at a TV station earlier this week, Governor Nyong’o revealed that he has written several essays concerning his new book title and when the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) kicked off, he thought of giving it a slot on his intro.
The lakeside city governor joines the likes of African Union Envoy Raila Amollo Odinga, Nkwameh Nkuruma, Tom J Mboya, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Jomo Kenyatta among other top leaders who wrote books to promote the culture of debate on critical national issues.
