A funeral of a middle-aged man who died after he was knocked down by a vehicle in Nairobi last week has been suspended after villagers clashed.
It is alleged that the villagers of Ikarango village, Kiamokama in Kisii County opposed the burial of the deceased identified as Jacob Ontiri after his brother, Frank and mother, Kemunto failed to involve villagers in the burial plans.
"We had planned as a village to bury the deceased on October 19, 2018, but the family decided to ferry the body from Nairobi for burial on Friday morning last week. We stood firm as locals and opposed the burial ceremony," said an elder Walter Omboye on Tuesday.

He said the body was taken to Hema hospital morgue for the burial plans to start afresh.
"The burial will now take longer because the family interrupted with our plans," he added.
According to the villagers, the late Jacob Ontiri must be given a good sendoff.
Area chief, Edward Onyancha said he could not oppose the villagers' decision.
"Villagers are responsible for the burial plans. The family could have allowed the burial committed plans for a good sendoff for the Ontiri," he said.
