Here are five World Cup stars and how they acquired their names:

Cristiano RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo was named after former US President Ronald Reagan. He was born on February 5, 1985, just a month after Ronald Reagan had been sworn in as the US President. Reagan was an actor but later turned into a politician and won the presidency.

Diego CostaDiego Costa was named in honor of former Argentine footballer Diego Maradona. Costa’s father had a unique way of naming his kids, having named his elder son Jair after Brazilian player Jairzinho. Diego Costa originates from Brazil. 

RonaldinhoOriginally, Ronaldinho was Ronaldo de Assis Moreira. However, given the fact that he was the youngest and smallest player in his youth club, they named him “Ronaldinho.”

Lionel MessiMessi was named after Lionel Richie. Messi’s parents were huge fans of the “Hello” singer such that they named their son in his honour.

KakaKaka is also called Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite. However, his brother could not pronounce his name “Ricardo.” Therefore, he called him “Caca.” It eventually evolved into Kaka.
