Deputy President William Ruto's mobilisation skills informed Dr Fred Matiang'i's decision to cancel his Gusii trip that was also scheduled this Friday, a source has claimed.

Both leaders were set to be in Nyamira on Friday but Dr Matiang'i has since cancelled his trip for Narok, where he will be launching County Commissioner's offices.

"CS will be opening County Commissioner offices in Narok on Friday. He will also be attending Madaraka Day celebrations at the same county on Saturday," said Mamboleo in a phone call.

Asked why the CS cancelled Gusii trip, Mamboleo was quick to dismiss speculations that it's because it coincided with the visit of the DP.

"Not at all. At times itineraries change. On Saturday the country will be celebrating Madaraka Day so there is logic behind visiting Narok," he said.

But according to a source who spoke in confidence, all MPs from Nyamira had confirmed attendance in DP Ruto's function, a move that informed Matiang'i to cancel his trip.

Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) and County MP Jerusha Momanyi had all set for Ruto's function.

"The truth is, he could not just visit without the presence of local leaders. Most of them confirmed attending Ruto's function and this made him to cancel. There was fear that his function will be poorly attended," he said.

Dr Matiang'i and Ruto are involved in a cold war, although both sides have often denied. Nyamira MPs are also in a dilemma over who to support given that both no longer work together.
