Former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko could the next Migori Senator if the latest political developments in the county are anything to go by.
In what could be the turning point in the veteran politician's political career, the Senatorial by-election which is scheduled for October 10 may be his to lose even as he eyes the much-needed political comeback after more than ten years in the political cold.
During the burial of Senator Ben Oluoch a fortnight ago, Ochillo and his bitter political rival Governor Okoth Obado reconciled in the presence of Raila Odinga -a sign of good things to come.
Last week, Ochillo rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta's government appointment saying he was more focused to serve Migori residents in his capacity as a politician at whichever level.
Then on Wednesday, the former cabinet Minister announced that he had withdrawn petition challenging the election of Governor Obado, a move that gave the clearest indication yet that the former lawmaker is in the race.
Further, the same Wednesday, it was reported that ODM will not be conducting nominations ahead of the by-election. Instead, the party will be handpicking a candidate.
So, could the candidate be Ochillo? Maybe.
His decision to reconcile with his political enemy, Obado and further withdraw petition challenging his election is perhaps a telltale sign of a bigger political deal.
Further, the decision to decline Uhuru's job is an indicator that the veteran politician has seen a good deal elsewhere.
