One man lost his life, while two others sustained serious injuries on Thursday evening after a gas explosion at Mlolongo,  Machakos county.

The incident happened at around 5.30 pm as some mechanics offloaded gas cylinders from a vehicle at Olecom garage. 

The incident was confirmed by Katani assistant county commissioner David Makunga. 

In an interview, Makunga noted that the man died on the spot, while the two others sustained serious injuries. 

"The man had carried gas cylinders at the back of the pickup registration number KBB 884G, and as some mechanics offloaded them, there was an explosion from one of the cylinders.

 "One of the mechanics died while two others were seriously injured. Police arrived at the scene after being notified and secured the area where curious residents had gathered to find out what had happened," he said. 

The injured mechanics were rushed to Shalom hospital in Athi River for treatment, while the body deceased was taken to the same hospital's  mortuary.
