The Kiambu County Government under the leadership of Governor Ferdinand Waititu is set to hold a Sh2 million football tournament to promote sports in the county.

According to a video posted on the Kiambu County Government official Facebook page on Monday, over Sh2,200,000 will be up for grabs during the tournament dubbed Kiambu Super Cup.

Waititu noted that the competition is aimed at promoting employment through sports.

“We seek to form a county football team which will be representing Kiambu in different competitions. This tournament will provide us with a chance to select the players who will be part of the team,” said Waititu.

The county boss further revealed that the winning team will be awarded a Sh1 million cash prize, with the teams that will come in second and third position receiving Sh500,000 and Sh250,000 respectively. The team that will come in fourth place will get Sh150,000 with number five to eight getting Sh75,000 each.

On his part, Kiambu Sports, Youth, ICT and Communication CeC Karungo wa Thagwa noted that the tournament will only be open to Kiambu residents.

“Those who will take part in the tournament are Kiambu residents who play grassroots football. Players in the Premier League and Super League will not be allowed to register and as we want to nature upcoming talents to get to your level," he said.

Residents have been urged to register at the MCA’s ward office before the December 22 deadline.
