When President Uhuru Kenyatta through his spokesperson Kanze Dena announced a cabinet mini-reshuffle and several other changes in government on Friday, there were obvious gainers and losers.

There are those who obviously gained by the fact that they got State appointments they did not have before but there are those that already had those appointments but lost or gained through the reshuffle. Let's first focus on the main losers.

CS Adan Mohammed: He has been moved from the Industrialization Ministry to the East African Community. Mohammed lost in the sense that he was moved from what can be termed as a 'lucrative and influential' ministry to a lesser 'attractive' ministry.

Industrialization, by all means, is a 'big' ministry with several state corporations under its watch, and which affect the day-to-day lives of Kenyans compared to the Ministry of East African Community. The ministry will be steering one of President Uhuru's big four agendas, manufacturing.

Mohammed may have fallen out of Uhuru's favour in the wake of the sugar scandal that is yet to be resolved.

Lilian Omolo: She has been sacked from her position of Public Service Principal Secretary and replaced by Francis Otieno. Omolo is one of the key suspects implicated in the latest NYS scandal and is staring at a lengthy jail term should she be found guilty of the charges she is accused of.

Manoah Esipisu: He has been appointed ambassador ending his five-year tenure as State House Spokesperson and head of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU). As the presidential spokesman, Esipisu undoubtedly wielded a lot of influence than he will as a mere ambassador posted far away from the seat of power.

What about the gainers?

CS Peter Munya: He is now the new boss at the Ministry of Industrialization. In his new role, he will steer Uhuru's manufacturing agenda, one of the 'Big Four'. His appointment is an affirmation of Uhuru's trust in him.

Kanze Dena: She has taken over from Manoah Esipisu albeit in an acting capacity with a possible confirmation in future. It is hardly one month since she was appointed Deputy State House Spokesperson and the sudden change of things in her favour can only have come as a surprise to her.

Raila's campaign Secretariat members: The two beneficiaries are Kathleen Openda and Joe Owaka. Openda who was the Director of Communications and Media in charge of Raila's campaigns is now the Chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) council.

Owaka who was the NASA Director of Operations becomes the Chairperson of the Kenya Universities and Colleges  Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
