Education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha on 15th April 2019 released the 2018/2019 placement report for the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Board (KUCCPS).

The report indicated that about 89, 486 students who sat for the Kenya Certificate for Secondary school Education in 2018 and scored mean grade of C+ and above, were selected to join different public and private universities in the country. 

Those who have been placed by KUCCPS are sponsored by the government. Another 98, 393 students were selected to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions

In this report, young universities seem to have attracted more students compared to the giants and more known universities like university of Nairobi. 

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri  topped the list of the most preferred universities. The university according to KUCCPS summary posted on their website had declared a capacity of 1880 students and 1,834 students were placed to pursue different programs in the university. This made a percentage of 98% of the declared capacity.

Technical university of Nairobi and Multimedia university came second and third respectively each having a percentage of 97% of the declared capacities being filled.

Kenyatta University occupied the fourth position with 94% while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) took the fifth position with a 93%.

University of Nairobi and Moi University in Uasin Gishu County missed from the list of top five most preferred universities 2019 in kenya.
