Only two prominent politicians accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to Kisumu Port on Saturday in a trip that left many security officers in shock.
At Kisumu International Airport, Raila reportedly took the president aside and the two were seen leaving even after the President's official jet had started it's engine.
With a police van trailing the two, reports the Standard, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili and Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju were the other other people who joined the president at Kisumu Port.
"I saw three Toyota Prados enter the port some minutes to 7pm. I thought they were local businessmen coming to check the port until I saw them alight. I moved closer to confirm if it was the President and Raila I was seeing,” said David Ojwang’, a boda boda rider who was at the port to pick a client.
“I saw more people join the President at the port. They included (Jubilee Secretary General Raphael) Tuju, Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli and Bob Madanji (County Chief of Protocol).”
At the Kisumu port, the President was shown the 4,000-tonne dredger launched by Raila on Friday. He inspected the port and was shocked by the massive invasion by the water hyacinth.
Earlier, the two had attended the funeral of former Youth Enterprise CEO Bruce Odhiambo at Koru in Muhoroni. Raila left on a chopper while Uhuru drove in his motorcade to the airport.
At the Kisumu Port, the two did some inspection before going for super at a nearby Yatch Club. Uhuru then left for the airport at 8:30pm.
