Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has defended himself against criticism of leaking his private phone calls.
Sonko says that he leaks the phone calls to protect his image and avoid falling into the cartels' hands.
Speaking on Milele FM on Wednesday, the Nairobi governor said that some people call to intimidate him hence the move to record the calls.
Sonko said that being a governor, he meets and interacts with many people some who cannot be trusted.
“This is politics and in politics you have to be clever,” the Nairobi governor said.
The governor says that he will not stop recording and leaking calls. “There are more coming and Kenyans will be shocked on what some people demand from me,” he added.
The Nairobi Governor has in the recent days been leaking phone calls between him and top government officials.
Last week, Sonko leaked a phone call between him and Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.
In the leaked call that went viral, Governor Waititu was recorded begging Sonko to release his wife Susan Wangare who had been arrested by Sonko’s men for constructing a building without county approvals.
