The Kamba political kingpin and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has served in the country's top political positions.
Kalonzo has close ties with top politicians among them former President Mwai Kibaki.
Kibaki appointed Kalonzo as a Vice President after the disputed 2007 presidential election that led to post-poll skirmishes causing deaths, destruction of property and displacement of communities.
Despite their close ties, the two leaders often rubbed shoulders while in both public and private during their reign.
In the round up to the famous 2002 general election, Kibaki, Kalonzo, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and others teamed up to end retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s 24-year rule.
Kibaki won the 2002 polls under the NARC coalition.
Kibaki, Raila and Kalonzo’s friendship continued to blossom until in 2005 when things fell apart causing a split in NARC.
It was on 11th November 2005 when Kibaki in a televised broadcast shocked Kenyans by sacking Kalonzo who was then the Minister for Environment, Raila Odinga (Roads) and the entire cabinet.
Kibaki only spared his then Vice President Moody Awori and former Attorney General Amos Wako.
The former president sacked Kalonzo, Raila and some cabinet ministers for opposing the 2005 referendum.
The sacking came a day after the 2005 proposed referendum was rejected on the ballot by Kenyans.
“According to powers given to me by the constitution I have sacked all misters, assistant ministers and will announce new Government in two weeks,” Kibaki said in a televised broadcast.
Kalonzo and Raila’s sacking made them form the famous Orange Democratic Movement Kenya (ODM-Kenya) pentagon that later split.
