Thirdway Alliance Secretary General Frederick Okango now claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta was locked out of Wednesday's Labour Day celebrations in Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
The event was also snubbed by Deputy President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday evening, Okango claimed that Uhuru and Ruto were locked out of the function by Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
He bashed Atwoli for privatising the event and handling it like his own, accusing him of leaving the top leaders out of his list of invited guests.
"Yeye ni kiongozi wa wafanyikazi lakini amegeuza hafla hii ikawa kama yake mwenyewe na kuwaalika watu anaowataka mwenyewe (He turned it into his function, and went ahead to invite his own people)," he said.
He added that at the same time, Uhuru and Ruto learnt that the celebrations are no longer viable, and decided to keep off though they could attend even without an invitation.
"Hii imekuwa nikama mikutano ya kisisasa ambapo watu wanarushiana matusi, mambo ya wafanyikazi yamesahaulika, Uhuru na Ruto hawakuona maana ya kuja hapo (Such functions have been turned into political rallies where insults are traded. Workers' issues are no longer the theme, Uhuru and Ruto had no business attending)," he added.
