The region boasts of popular and influential female politicians.

Over the years, Ukambani has produced top female politicians who have shaped the country’s political dynamics in various ways.

As the battle for 2022 intensifies, here are six female Kamba politicians who are likely to contest for the gubernatorial seats in the region:

1. Wavinya Ndeti

The former Kathiani legislator is likely to contest the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022 polls.

Ndeti lost the seat in both 2013 and 2017 General Elections.

In both the elections, the former MP appealed Governor Alfred Mutua’s victory but also lost in the courts.

Ndeti has been quoted saying that she is determined to fight for electoral justice

She is among 50 Kenya women who were recently honored by the United Nations for their transformative leadership.

2. Dr. Susan Musyoka

She is the former Machakos Woman Representative.

Musyoka lost re-election in August 8, 2017 polls to Joyce Kamene.

The former Woman Representative is said to be rebranding ahead of 2022 and is likely to contest for a higher political seat.

3. Rachel Kaki Nyamai

She is the Kitui South Member of Parliament and among the most experienced female politicians in Ukambani.

Nyamai is among the few Kamba politicians who won political seats on Jubilee party ticket in Ukambani.

A critic of Governor Charity Ngilu, Nyamai is likely to be on the Kitui gubernatorial ballot in 2022.

4. Jessicah Mbalu

She is the Kibwezi East Member of Parliament serving her second term in office.

Mbalu has been quoted saying she might not seek re-election as MP in the 2022 General Elections.

The Wiper politician is said to be eyeing a top seat in the much awaited 2022 polls.

It is not clear on the position Mbalu could go for but chances are high that she might be on the ballot to succeed Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

5. Adelina Mwau

She is the Makueni County Deputy Governor.

Mwau has already declared her interest to succeed Kibwana in 2022.

The deputy governor says she is experienced enough to take over from Kibwana.

6. Irene Kasalu

She is the Kitui Woman Representative.

Kasalu is also a close ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

She is likely to contest the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022.

Kasalu is, however, yet to hint on whether she will vie for the seat in the next polls.
