County Health Minister Douglas Bosire has dismissed claims that Nyamira County Referral Hospital is in a bad shape, arguing that photos making rounds on social media are inaccurate.
For the better part of the week, residents have accused the minister of doing little to improve the sanitation of the county's largest hospital, raising questions about the state of toilets.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mr Bosire claimed that the photos were politically stage-managed to ruin his reputation by his critics within the county government.
"We have casuals who are well renumerated. They are always doing their job all the time. The photos could have been taken at some instance but I can assure you the facility is clean," he said.
Mr Bosire, a close confidant of Governor John Nyagarama, added that residents should feel free to use the facilities instead of traveling to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
"The photos were politically inspired but we are used to such. Let our people use this facility because it's well equipped. We also have enough staff," he claimed.
The NCRH serves over 500 people per day and the health minister contends that at times water supply is a problem but the county government will fix the issue.
Health Services Director Dr Jack Magara said water supplier GWASCO has been having issues but the hospital is keen to address them.
"We get water from GWASCO. At times water can be a challenge but the hospital is always clean. We shall have a long term remedy to this."
