During the launching of the Coast General Maternity Reception and High Dependency Unit on Monday, Joho said men would not resist making moves on Okuthe due to her beauty.

Citing the opposition's 'resist' slogan that saw opposition supporters resit services of Safaricom, Joho said "halafu Madam Rita alisema mambo ya kuresist. Hebu you look at her, mweza resist kweli nyinyi?" he said pointing at Rita, sending attendants into laughter.

"Kuna kuresist hapa? Naona wanaume wa-smile-smile kweli... mta-resist vipi sasa?" he added, all this time, cameras pointing at the 'shy' Rita, who was smiling, looking at Joho.

"Sisi tumesema the only kuresist kwetu ni ya ufisadi tu na wale wafisadi. Lakini look at you bwana and your team also. Kuna kuresist hapa kweli?" Joho continued citing Okuthe and further assured that his government will work with all partners in delivering services to Mombasa residents.

Joho launched Sh14 million Maternal High Dependency Unit at the Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH) which is the first of its kind in County Hospital and the largest of its kind in the whole country.

The centre has an 8-bed capacity fully equipped with ultra-modern equipment and highly trained staff with the capabilities of handling high-risk pregnancies more effectively hence offering expert obstetric and critical care to mothers.

The County Government of Mombasa carried out the project in conjunction with Safaricom Foundation.

Joho's administration did the infrastructural changes worth Sh8 million while Safaricom brought in equipment worth Sh6 million. On her part, Safaricom Trustee Rita Okuthe said the unit will reduce maternal deaths in the coast region.
