Speaking in Marsabit Saturday, Ruto said that the government would review the punitive tax to ensure that it does not weigh heavily on the shoulders of the common Kenyan.

"We have seen that there are issues that need to be looked into. As government, we will sit down with parliament to ensure that the common citizen is not made to suffer," the DP said.

His words come amid a huge public outcry over the implications of the VAT that CS Rotich has insisted has to be embraced in spite of Parliament's intervention.

Should the punitive tax be pursued, it could impact on his presidential ambitions.

Jubilee was re-elected on the platform of improving the economy for the ordinary Kenyans.
