Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has claimed that his support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid is to blame for his woes.
Speaking during a church funds drive at Makutano center in Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, the first term county boss alleged that his arrest has been masterminded by leaders opposed to Ruto’s bid.
He insisted that he didn’t embezzle funds as noted by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) who raided his homes in Nairobi pending investigations.
The county boss said that claims that his daughter benefited from tenders in the county government are false.
He insisted that nobody has the mandate to compel him to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga before the 2022 general elections.
“They are lying to people on Facebook that my daughter has millions in her account, and that I have over 50 bank accounts, but all those are lies,” said Waititu, as quoted by Citizen.
The governor has maintained that he is innocent and he will not abandon Ruto, who is considered one of the front runners in the contest to ascend to power.
