Wealthy Eldoret businessman Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich popularly known as Buzeki on Thursday sent a request to President Uhuru Kenyatta over fertilizers prices.
The former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant took to his twitter account requesting the Head of State, President Uhuru Kenyatta to subsidize fertilizer prices.
“I beseech @UKenyatta !!, farmers are expecting subsidized fertilizer, hold our hand, we are hard UP! We must feed ourselves at WORST. Agriculture is subsidized world over .!! Tai,” pleaded the wealthy businessman.
Farmers in Uasin Gishu county have been complaining for a long time over poor maize prices while fertilizers prices are very high.
Pleas by the businessman who is expected to vie for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat in 2022 comes just a day after the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) chairman Noah Wekesa said that farmers will have to buy fertilizers from traders as the government did not import the subsidized ones this year.
Since last year, there have been pleas from farmers for blended fertilizers for specific soils at subsidized prices.
Buzeki is among various prominent people who have on the past come out to argue the government to buy maize at profitable prices.
Even as the renowned Eldoret tycoon and businessman fight for the farmers' plight, some of them allege that he is one of the maize cartels in the country.
Politically, Buzeki is rallying behind Deputy President William Ruto as he builds roots for his 2022 presidential race.
