The Migori senatorial seat remains a heated contest whose rightful owner will only be disclosed on October 8, as the county heads to the ballot to fill the vacant slot.
The race has since narrowed down to a contest between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Ochilo Ayacko and, Eddy Okech of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK).
A section of ODM officials led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna have since pitched camp in the region to boost Ayacko’s bid.
The team was, however, met with shock and humiliation on Saturday, after being booed while on the campaign trail, in a region considered one of the party's bedrocks.
According to the Standard, the present leaders made attempts to use Governor Okoth Obado’s implication in the murder of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno to woo the masses.
The incident that happened in Suna West sub-county saw the team booed and heckled by the youth present, at a time when Obado remains remanded at the Industrial Area Prison in Nairobi, pending the consideration of his bail application.
The youth who succeeded in suspending the team from the region over what they termed propaganda took issue with the leaders’ advise that they should shun Okech who is apparently being supported by the Governor.
“We fail to understand how the issue of Governor Obado, who is in custody, comes in these campaigns,” Victor Otieno, their leader, was quoted by the Monday Standard.
“We don’t want people from outside the county to come here and bring chaos. Let them tell us why they want us to vote for the ODM candidate but not to speak on the issue of Obado all the time during their campaign,” he added.
Odinga is expected in the region later this week to further campaign for Ayacko.
