Celebrated economist David Ndii has ruled out changes of serving in government despite immense pressure from a section of Kenyans on Twitter, who believe he's best suited to serve as Principal Secretary or Auditor General.
In the past few weeks, Kenyans have been fronting Ndii's name to treasury, even as some view him as best candidate to replace outgoing Auditor General Edward Ouko whose term is almost expiring.
But in his response, Ndii avers that for one to be successful in life, it doesn't mean that he or she serves in government. He holds the views that one can contribute to better governance from whatever capacity.
"Why would I want to be a PS at 50+ while I could have been one or CBK Governor at 40 if I had wanted to? Why do people in this country believe that being a government bureaucrat is a big achievement? asked Ndii.
He added: "Dear KOT kindly refrain from volunteering others for public offices we aren’t seeking. Its your responsibility to elect honest capable politicians who in turn appoint the right people and hold them accountable but you choose #MtuWetu Buck stops with you. Choices consequences."
During 2017 polls, Ndii is one of strategists who backed Raila Odinga's candidature. He also joined in formation of National Resistance Movement, whose main aim was to pursue economic boycott against President Uhuru Kenyatta's government.
But his favourite candidate Mr Odinga, would later join Uhuru, a move that Ndii has never embraced. Dr Ndii is a persistent critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta's economic policies.
At first, he questioned the price of Standard Gauge Railway, arguing that it was grossly exaggerated. Concidentally, Mr Odinga, who together with Ndii questioned SGR, will be accompanying Uhuru to China this week to secure a loan from China that would work on the third phase of SGR.
