Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is a happy man after Mombasa County Assembly special committee cleared his ally, Transport and Infrastructure County Executive Taufiq Balala from incompetence and failure to honour summons saga.
The news of his clearance will excite the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader who had started facing opposition from a formerly supportive County Assembly.
Balala was impeached two weeks ago despite receiving public support from the county chief.
Members of County Assembly (MCAs) accused him of abusing his close links with Joho to ignore assembly summons.
The MCAs wanted the County Executive to explain how he spent more than Sh3 billion allocated to his ministry.
He was also said of being incompetent but Governor Joho defended his grades stating that he should be evaluated based on his ministerial performance as opposed to academics.
Jomvu Kuu MCA Athman Shebe was the man behind the impeachment motion.
However, a special committee comprising of nominated MCA Milka Moraa, Kipevu’s Faith Boniface, Fadhili Mwalimu (Port Reitz), Athman Mwamiri (Likoni) and Tononoka’s Ali Omar Shariff has cleared him of any wrongdoing.
“I was given a chance to explain myself and the county assembly found me innocent on all the allegations against me. The county assembly of Mombasa has played their role of oversight as required by law. I will continue to respect their role and cooperate with them as they continue to serve the people of #Mombasa.” Balala said after being cleared as reported by Baraka FM.
