Doctors at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) have revealed what killed Evaline Namukhula, the mother of quintuplets.
According to Benson Macharia, a pathologist at MTRH, the deceased died of risks linked to pregnancy known as peripartum cardiomyopathy.
The deceased gave birth to five children - two boys and three girls.
"After we did a postmortem to the body of the deceased, the results show that she died of peripartum cardiomyopathy which is a weakness of the heart muscle," the doctor spoke to the press after the autopsy on Monday at the hospital.
Dr Macharia reiterated that the condition is common to all mothers but hers was different since she had given birth to more children.
"The examinations also showed that a lot of fluid was in her lungs, around the heart and the heart was slightly swollen and there was no blood clot," Dr Macharia added.
MTRH's CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa passed the message of condolence to the family, neighbours, community and Kenyans at large for the loss of Namukhula.
He assured Kenyans that the three remaining girls were in good condition.
The body of the diseased is at MTRH's farewell home awaiting burial.
