A concern has been raised following the increased number of students who have ventured into alcohol consumption an drug abuse in Kisii County.
According to the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) official Victor Okioma, about 18 per cent of school going children in Kisii County are consuming alcohol.
He said most of the alcohol selling joints in Kisii doesn't adhere to the set rules.
"The increased number of students consuming alcohol has been brought about by the number of increased alcohol joints in Kisii town where the students buy alcohol without being questioned by sellers," he said.
The official argued that most of the alcoholic drinks being sold not only to students but, also adults in Kisii County are counterfeits which are harmful to consumers.
"There is a need for NACADA to start standardizing procedures when liquor sellers are applying for operational licenses. It is worrying that locals are consuming alcohol which doesn't meet the set standards," said Okioma.
Mr. Okioma said NACADA is planning to start using money collected through licensing to take drug addicts to rehabilitation centres.
He also assured that the agency will do a survey in the county to know the number of liquor selling joints.
