Deputy President William Ruto toured Garissa County on Monday and launched several development projects.
It was the second time in a span of one month the DP was visiting Garissa County.
Some political pundits have equated DP Ruto’s visits to a 2022 political strategy but the DP maintains that his visits across the country are development-oriented.
The DP arrived in Garissa on Sunday and spend the better part of Monday launching development projects.
Accompanied by Garissa leaders among them Governor Ali Korane, Women Rep Anab Subow, Senator Yusuf Haji, Garissa MP Aden Duale and other politicians, DP Ruto called on the leaders to champion development and unity.
Here is the list of projects the DP launched in Garissa.
1. Commissioned 6 boreholes
The DP commissioned six boreholes in Iftin and ADC areas.
The boreholes were constructed by the Garissa county government.
While commissioning the boreholes, DP Ruto said that the national government will work with counties to ensure Kenyans have access to clean water.
2. Issued 51-seater bus to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)
The DP presented a 51-seater bus to the Kenya Medical Training College- Garissa campus.
While presenting the bus, the DP said that the government plans to establish more vocational training centers across the country.
He urged students to enroll for technical courses in vocational training and polytechnics.
3. Launched construction of Dekaburi -Garissa Ndogo- Sankuri road
The DP commissioned the construction of the Sh480 Million road that seeks to open up the country to investments.
The road is jointly sponsored by the Garissa county government and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
4. Madrassa programme
The Deputy President launched the Madrassa empowerment programme.
The programme seeks to establish more Madrassas in Garissa for Islamic teachings.
