The Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati was a naughty and bad child during his childhood, but defied all odds to become a Member of Parliament.
Being a mischievous boy, his parents were concerned about his future. They looked for every alternative to salvage their naughty kid from drawing. They, therefore, had to take him out of their rural home in Kisii to Bura in Tana River to live with a relative.
The 35-year-old MP explains how disturbing he was, such that he did not attend classes. As if his parents saw it coming, Arati was expelled from Nyamache Secondary forcing him to complete his studies at Suneka Secondary.
“I never attended classes because of my naughtiness. To prevent me from dropping out of school, my parents had to take me to live with my aunt.” Arati said.
After his secondary education, he eked a living in Nairobi where he was a vegetable vendor and used to hawk vegetables in almost all the markets in Nairobi.
From the business, he saved some cash that helped him enroll in Kenya Polytechnic for Diploma in Tourism Management. He, later on, Joined national politics where he became the MP of Dagoretti North.
However, he never left his mischievous behaviors. He once challenged Raia Odinga’s position, which made people say that he was Jubilee’s project aimed at bringing wrangles in ODM party.
"We had a healthy competition. Even though I lost, I was glad to be a strong Number two in the party,” Arati said.
