Deputy President William Ruto is demanding immediate dismissal of an officer from Magarini who failed to take action after receiving a report of a 14-year old girl who was defiled by 50-year-old man.
Responding to statements by Kilifi political leaders, led by Magarini MP Michael Kingi, on public officers who are relaxing on issues pertaining early pregnancies, the deputy president condemned the act by public officers, terming it as misuse of office.
Speaking at Gongoni, in Magarini Sub-county, where he distributed 800 title deeds to residents, Ruto called officers to up their game, else they risk going home.
“If you can’t protect our children from rapists, then you have no business occupying that office. You are seated there waiting for bribes. I want to know the officer to send him/her home tomorrow,” he added.
Ruto said that instead of abusing a public office, the officers should be dismissed immediately and taken to court.
The Magarini MP had stated at the gathering that early pregnancy cases do not seem to end soon because as leaders condemn the issue in all corners, public officers who receive the cases do nothing at all.
Kingi said, “very many cases have been reported to these officers but no single culprit has been arrested. As we push parents, teachers and motorcycle riders to be responsible, the provisional administration is not up to its task.”
Also, Ruto asked police officers to stop harassing motorcycle riders from Magarini, adding that they are doing business just like other business people.
He said, ”these riders are not criminals. They have families to feed and hence are depending on the motorcycle business.”
However, the deputy president called for discipline and respect to the law among riders to curb unnecessary accidents.
