Appearing before senior principal magistrate Liz Gicheha, Emmah Karimi and Evans Kyalo were charged that they jointly assaulted a police officer, inspector Richard Mucume Kabiru on July 28.

Karimi, Kuresoi South deputy county commissioner, and Kyalo, an assistant county commissioner in Transmara, allegedly beat up Mucume over a disagreement on a work-related issue causing him injuries.

Kyalo was formerly stationed at the Kuresoi South offices before he was transferred.

According to the police, the officer was on his official duties when the incident occurred.

The two officers, however, denied the charges.

Their lawyer Motanya Onyancha had earlier sought to have the plea deferred saying the two had been issued with a summon to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nakuru but the request was turned down by the court.

They were released on a bond of Sh10,000 each with a surety of similar amount.

The case was slated for mention on August 13.
