Speaking in Kabondo Kasipul during a fundraiser in support of a local school, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party legislator lashed out at the Mount Kenya legislators, saying that Kenya is bigger than them.

He called on them to be patient and wait for the BBI committee to submit its report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, both of whom commissioned the report.

"They are entitled to their own opinions but they cannot impose their opinions on the millions of Kenyans. Kenya is bigger than Mount Kenya.

"And I want to urge them to be patient and wait for the BBI report to come out so that they can argue from an informed perspective ," the Homa Bay senator said. (1:31-1:49)

The report is expected to be handed over to Uhuru and Raila in the coming few days, possibly next week.

Critics of the BBI claim that it is a ploy by some politicians to engineer a bloated executive and introduce a parliamentary system of governance that will see the head of state elected by legislators and not directly by the people.

Exponents of the initiative say it will significantly reduce the tensions that attend general elections.
