Parents of a son who scored an impressive 417 marks from Isiolo county in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are on the brink of witnessing their son miss a golden chance of joining Starehe Boys Center, the school of his choice.
This is after the school accused the father of the boy of inappropriate behavior and failing to meet admission requirements.
Although they produced all the necessary requirements including the placement letter from the Ministry of Education, a receipt of Ksh.70,000 for fee payment made to the school’s account and a tag used to gain entrance to Starehe, their attempts to have their son admitted have remained futile for about 10 days now.
The school’s head of operations John Okeno said that the institution which was established six decades ago follows its own strict procedure in admissions.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday evening, Acting Centre Director Josphat Mwaura said the child had not been selected to join the school but was merely one of 24 students that had been recommended for consideration by the ministry.
He confirmed that the school admitted 23 and left out Babu’s child after the parents failed to fill requisite forms adding that all students joining the school must fill out the forms.
According to the parents, David Babu (father) and Christine Ngare (mother), they have been forced to put up with their son in a nearby hotel for 10 days trying to persuade the school to admit the boy.
"We were chased out like we were conmen, I am embarrassed and so disappointed," said Babu.
The matter has since been taken up by Nairobi Regional Education Coordinator, John Oloo.
