Speaking at the airport, Mikosz noted that he is not aware of the decisions reached by other airlines but affirmed that his team was working to ensure the situation reverts to normalcy.

“We are in contact with all KAA staff since 4.00 a.m and indeed the fact of disruptions of the airport created has at this stage delayed about 24 flights and two flights were diverted to other locations. These are the arriving flights. I speak on behalf of Kenya Airways only because all other operators might have taken other options to fly or not cancel their flights,” he said.

On his part, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said that he will not leave the airport until operations resume, adding that flights will resume in an hour’s time.

“I am pleased to announce that the issues that we had at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport that resulted in the disruption of operations this morning have been resolved and we expect that the first flight to take off in the next hour or so,” Macharia tweeted.
