Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has downplayed the ongoing debate that Parliament plans to kill Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC)
Speaking on Monday morning at Citizen TV's Daybreak show, the legislator said, the role of parliament is lawmaking and not killing constitutionally allowed institutions.
"Parliament cannot kill SRC," said Wamalwa.
He said that SRC can only be disbanded through a referendum. Wamalwa asked the media to be objective.
"You cannot wake up and kill SRC; this is a referendum matter. I have not seen the legislative proposal on the floor of the house," he added.
SRC came under attack from parliamentarians after it moved to court to block MPs from pocketing Sh250,000 house allowance citing unfairness.
Last week, MPs and Senators through the Speakers of both houses convened a meeting in which they resolved to respond to SRC's court petition.
MPs have taken issue with SRC for locking them out of the house allowance yet other state officers enjoy the same.
The Kiminini MP further hinted that Parliament will factor in MPs house allowances in the 2019/2020 financial year.
He further noted that they will reduce the SRC commissioners in order to save the taxpayers money.
