From the events following the repeat presidential election last year, it is almost certain that President Uhuru Kenyatta may not back Deputy President William Ruto for his 2022 presidential bid.

President Kenyatta has seemingly embarked on building his legacy and supporting DP Ruto's presidential bid has taken a backspace.

The president has intensified his war against corruption with his latest move of lifestyle audit. This has put DP Ruto on the limelight and he may end up losing a friend or two.

The Deputy President, it seems, was not very happy with the truce between opposition leader Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta that was sealed by their historic handshake on March 9. Consequently, the president has indicated that the country should move towards national healing which was the basis of the handshake.

You will again notice that the President 's development agenda is contradicting that of DP Ruto's constant politicking, which the former has labeled as 'Kutangatanga'.

Their body language, even when attending the same functions, manifests a rift between the two.

The promise to support Ruto, as a reciprocal to the latter's efforts in the last two polls, has been clouded in the 'let us focus on the Big Four Agenda and not politics' mantra. This is just a tip of the iceberg that Kenyatta is not comfortable with his deputy and is likely to throw the DP under the bus come 2022.

This argument may also not be true but time shall tell.
