The African Union Special Representative for Infrastructure Development said that the talks touched on among others, the upcoming AU summit in the nation's capital of Niamey.

Also discussed was the Open Skies agreement, in a meeting that comes only days after a similar deliberation session with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) head of state Felix Tsishekedi.

"Held talks with President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger on the African Continental Free Trade Area, the Inga Dam, as well as the open skies agreement. We also discussed the upcoming AU summit in Niamey," said Raila.

On Friday, Raila held similar talks with Tsishekedi in DRC, where the Inga Dam issue again popped up.

The leaders also discussed a wide range of development issues, among them the Kinshasa-Brazzaville bridge which forms part of the Tripoli-Cape Town Trans Africa Highway.

Raila was picked for the job mid last year, a few months after his March 9, 2018, truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta which rested their enmity as was seen in the 2017 presidential contest.

The former Prime Minister has since been largely silent on matters local politics and has also gone mum on his plans for the 2022 general polls.
