There was drama in Karatina town of Friday night following an unusual incident where a police officer lobbed teargas cannister at his girlfriend over a domestic row.
According to a statement recordee in Karatina Police station under OB NO. 51/31/5/2019, police constable David Kemboi of service number 117399, reportedly lobbed a cannister to his lover in their rented house at the outskirts of Karatina town.
"David Kemboi who is a tenant in the plot exploded a teargas cannister which forced the reporter (Ambrose Mwangi Mundia) and other ten tenants and their children to scamper outside the building as they fled the fumes," reads the statement in part.
After the incident, police officers stormed into the house where one unexploded cannister was recovered.
Manhunt has since been launched in search of the police constable who has reportedly gone into hiding.
In the recent times, cases of lovers getting violent in each other have steadily been rising, with depression and unresolved issues being cited as the top causes for the unfortunate turn of events.
The National Police Service (NPS) should now intervene and make counselling services easily available to police officers to curb the rising cases of domestic violence and prevent possible loss of lives in future.
