Operations in the County of Migori have remained smoothly running despite the absence of Governor Okoth Obado who is facing murder charges in Nairobi.
The post is currently in the hands of Deputy Governor Nelson Mwaita Mahanga, who is temporarily standing in for the embattled Obado.
Mahanga assumed the county chief seat on Monday, as Obado pleaded not guilty to charges of aiding in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno at Milimani Law Courts.
His first task was a meeting with representatives from the World Bank which is behind the sponsorship of some of the agricultural projects in the county, reports the Daily Nation.
Obado who becomes the first Governor in Kenyan history to be charged with a capital offence was arrested on Friday last week and remanded at the Gigiri Police Station pending arraignment.
He was on Monday remanded again at the Industrial Area Prison and again sent back on Tuesday after his presentation before Lady Justice Jessie Lessit, pending the consideration of his bail application.
His name has since heavily featured in the murder probe of Sharon who was reportedly abducted in Rongo, Migori County three weeks ago, and later found dead in the neighboring Homabay County 2 days later.
