The student, Albert Onyango had placed a Sh20,000 live betting on 'How Will the Tie Be Decided'.

The 21-year-old student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Education said after the teams went into the extra time, he tried to check on the odds placed against each and on realising that, Russia, the home team had odds of 51.00 to win in extra time, he didn't hesitate but backed them with his cash.

With that, the student was expecting a return of SH1,020,000 only for the teams to settle on a draw after extra 30 minutes leading to the penalty shootout.

"I don't regret making that decision at all as it wasn't my first time to lose. In football that's what happens and had it happened otherwise, I would be celebrating right now with my friends," he said.

Though he later admits being at pain, the student said had he won the money, he would have bought a piece of land in the university's neighborhood and built some rental houses for the university students residing outside the campus.

And with the World Cup now entering into the semi-finals, the student revealed that he would continue to 'invest'.
