With the 2022 elections nearing, politicians across Kenya, and especially Luo Nyanza, are already crafting and scheming on how to acquire their preferred seats.

In Nyanza, sitting Deputy Governors are expected to take carrying directions, judging by the situation on the ground.

Here is what to expect.

First on the list is Homabay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata who has for the last 7 years deputized Governor Cyprian Awiti who is now on his last term and obviously on his way out.

The latter is very likely to attempt to take over from his current boss, as has been seen among deputy county bosses across the nation.

Actually, it seems the Governor is preparing him for the same and has over the past few weeks left him in charge as he was ailing.

Also, Orata represented Awiti in court during their reelection petition ruling last month.

The move was most likely being used to popularize him with the people and bring him out and an able leader and fit for the top seat.

Likely to attempt a similar thing is his Siaya counterpart James Okumbe who, however, remains largely unknown to many and rare in the national eye.

However, his bid will depend on his political tactics.

This is considering that the county also has the likes of Senator James Orengo and former Rarieda lawmaker Nicholas Gumbo who appear better placed to win the seat.

Likely to stay off the race is Migori Deputy Governor Nelson Mwita who is operating in a county where his community is the minority.

The latter hails from the Kuria side of the county, while the majority are the Luo, and judging by the tribal voting mode in Kenya, he will most likely abandon the race for fear or a loss.

In Kisumu, Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli will most likely run alongside Governor Anyang' Nyong'o who is on his first term.
