Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has once again affirmed that he will be in the ballot come 2022.
According to Oparanya, Deputy President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga should now back a Luhya candidate in the 2022.
Speaking on Saturday, Oparanya noted that the Western region has over the years supported the two leaders. He said it was time for the two leaders to return the favour.
He was speaking at the homecoming event for Lurambi MP Titus Khamala.
"Western region supported Mr Ruto to be the first Deputy President in 2013 and 2017, and the time has come for him to shelve his presidential ambitions and support one of us,” said Oparanya.
He noted that the region has supported Raila during his previous presidential stabs.
"The Mulembe nation supported Raila in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017 wholeheartedly. I'm his deputy party leader and the time has come for him (Raila) to rally his supporters behind us in 2022 since I have been a faithful servant to him.”
Oparanya has maintained that he has what it takes to become the next president.
Ruto is among the key contestants for the seat while it is not clear if Raila will be on the ballot.
