Many people would agree that Kisumu County Assembly Speaker George Onyango Oloo is a man of many firsts.
This is the man who was booted by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and strolled straight into ODM leader Raila Odinga’s camp ahead of last year’s general elections.
But can he become the next Kisumu County Senator? Yes. But in order for him to become the next Kisumu Senator, two things must happen first.
One of them is that he must remain steadfast in supporting Raila Odinga and the ODM brigade. Secondly, he must pray very hard that current Kisumu senator Fred Otieno Outa does not defend his seat in the 2022 general elections.
Rumours doing rounds in Kisumu indicate that Outa is angling to become Kisumu Governor. If he vies for the gubernatorial seat, then Onyango Oloo will have a chance of replacing him.
Before being elected Speaker, Onyango Oloo lost to Fred Ouda in his bid to become Kisumu Central MP.
Apart from one Joshua Miguna Miguna, Onyango Oloo is a master of the Queen's language and his oratory skills are second to none.
It would be nice to listen to him contribute to bills and motions in the Senate only if and when he becomes the next Kisumu County Senator.
It is worth noting that Oloo is yet to disclose his next political move ahead of 2022 elections.
