The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has registered names of 11,309 political aspirants, interested in various posts, in the August 8, polls.
Media and Communications manager Andrew Limo said political parties ensured names of the candidates who won in primaries had been uploaded on the Candidate Registration Management System (CRMS) by the set May 14, deadline.
''Political parties uploaded 11,309 candidates on the Candidate Registration Management System CRMS by the 14th May deadline'' said Limo.
In an update, he noted the agency would meet all successful aspirants May 23, for a pre-nomination meeting in their respective electoral areas and in Nairobi, for the presidential meeting.
''We will meet with aspirants on 23rd May for a pre-nomination meeting at their respective electoral areas and Nairobi for presidential,'' the Commission said, Monday.
Of the 11,309 candidates uploaded, eight are vying for presidency, 180 for governorship and 258 for the senate seat. 1,470 seek to be Members of Parliament; 9,133 are vying to be Members of County Assembly, while 200 aspirants are in the race for Woman Representative posts
Led by chairman Wafula Chebukati, IEBC commissioners met with officials of the Central Organisation of Trade Union (Cotu), led by secretary general Francis Atwoli, to discusses concerns of workers in regard to election participation.
