Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is planning to impeach Deputy President William Ruto over the ongoing scandals in the country.
Senator James Orengo said they have laid down a strategy to see Ruto is impeached through article 150 of the constitution.
Speaking in Ugenya constituency during campaigns for the upcoming by-election, the vocal senator said ‘Ruto must go’.
“I want to repeat here and now that the Senate together with the National Assembly, we want to bring a motion of impeachment to kick out DP Ruto from office,” Orengo said.
Orengo blamed the DP on the various scandals that have hit the country.
“We cannot have a Deputy President who is mentioned in every scandal,” he added.
ODM party secretary-general Edwin Sifuna said the party has already prepared the impeachment motion and assured President Uhuru Kenyatta of support from the party’s leader Raila Odinga.
“As the ODM fraternity, we assure the President that we are behind him and the DCI in the war against corruption,” Sifuna said.
According to article 150 of the constitution, the Deputy President may be removed from office on the ground of physical or mental incapacity to perform the functions of the office; or on impeachment.
Impeachment might be as a result of gross violation of a provision of this Constitution or any other law; if he has committed a crime under national or international law; or due to gross misconduct.
