Estranged businessman Don Bosco Gichana has President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to thank for his expeditious judgement, it has emerged.
In August, Uhuru called Raila, who was in Tanzania and agreed to give necessary diplomatic aide to Mr. Don Bosco Gichana, who'd been in Arusha prison over money laundering and fraud.
"President John Magufuli wanted Bosco's release to be formal and thus involvement of Kenyan embassy.
"He got an assurance when Uhuru called Raila and assured them that the government was in support of the deal reached by the duo," a source privy to Bosco's tribulations said.
Raila was attending funeral to Monica Joseph, a sister to Magufuli at Arusha when they met.
The flamboyant businessman cum politician will now pay Sh15 million fine having already served five years in prison.
Journalist Nyambega Gisesa, who has been following the matter, revealed that Uhuru was actively involved.
"It took the intervention of the president and Raila to convince Magufuli. In the process, Bosco had to plead guilty for a lesser sentence," he said.
Already, Gusii MPs led by Richard Onyonka and Simba Arati are mobilising for funds to pay the fine.
Mr. Bosco played an integral role in Raila's 2007 campaigns not only in Gusii but also across the country.
